Solution

I'm trying to run a program on my local computer in TwinCAT, Build 4024.12 but I do not get an option to Activate Configuration. When I go to select the target system, I get the text "Invalid Target Version on '<Local>'.

Build Issue 1

If I use the build drop down and then Select from Target System, I get the popup to Load default version. Selecting Yes does nothing as I would expect '(Default)' to become '(Loaded)'.

Build Issue 2

This is done in a VM but I have previously run activated programs with no problem. Thanks for the assistance!

The first step is to see the color of the TwinCAT icon next to the Windows clock.
It should be in blue or green. If it is grayed out, the service is not running.

SOLVED: I was able to figure this out. I'm not sure why it occurred, but I cleared the contents of the TwinCAT boot folder on my local PC and then restarted the VM. When I opened the program, I was able to activate the configuration and then start the PLC.

I have had this happen before and clearing the boot data solved it.  The issue was that the boot project had some invalid configuration and put TwinCAT into error when it tried to start.
