There are more and more new notebooks with Windows 10/11 built on ARM processors  (Qualcomm Snapdragon).

ASUS Vivobook S

Acer Swift Edge

Samsung Galaxy Book4

LG Gram

Please, post here feedback with using them for TwinCAT3 (development environment + real-time).

Hello dayzlypper,

I do not have experience using TwinCAT on the new Windows Laptops with ARM (I am assuming Snapdragon Elite X?)

I did try to use TwinCAT 3 in a VM on my Macbook Pro M1 (ARM-based CPU). What I learned is that you can use TwinCAT 3 for writing code, but if you want to simulate or connect to real hardware it is not possible.

You can't simulate because the cores are different on an ARM computer.
You can't connect to hardware because the ADS protocol with EtherCAT is for x86.

I got even an answer from Beckhoff mid nov 2024:

The current ARM processors, including x86 emulators, unfortunately cannot fully emulate the x86 memory model to 100%. For this reason, the TwinCAT ADS Router cannot be started, and thus TwinCAT cannot be used.
The installation of 4024 may complete, but the ADS Router of 4024 also cannot be started on ARM systems. This depends on the x86 emulators and Microsoft/Windows.
I think they need to address this topic sooner or later. hope sooner.
