I am trying to set up a twinsafe motion project on a CX5240. I created the safety project, downloaded it, then began to experience problems. It seems like the ethercat network really slowed down. Logging in to view online values began taking a really long time, and I even began losing connection to the PLC quite a bit. I deleted the safety project off the safety controllers (ELM7222-9018s and a EL6910), and I tried redownloading the safety project. However, the communication is so bad that I can't get the project to download. Any ideas how to diagnose the issue?

Hello!

Has anyone had any success setting up Profisafe slaves in TwinSAFE? I am trying to follow the example in Beckhoff's safety application guide to setup a Sick Microscan 3 in my TwinSAFE group but I can't get the group out of com startup error (the Microscan is the only alias) and it looks as if there is no safety communication taking place. I am using a C6015 IPC and EL6910, and I am using one of the Ethernet ports of the C6015 as my Profinet Controller. It appears as if the actual Profinet connection is working there is just no safety data being exchanged as far as I can tell.

I can update with some screenshots if needed as well.

Thanks!

I see the 'Execution Group ID' in the Properties pane of the TwinSAFE Group, but the number is greyed out and I cannot change it.

TwinSAFE is great in certain ways, but also a real PITA in other ways.

Thank you.

Edit:

I found the answer. You right-click the TwinSAFE Project in the Project Tree and there is an edit "Group Order ID" option. 🙄

For those of you using TwinSAFE and the EL2904 output terminals, how are you making use of the (+) and (-) connections for each channel? I was trying to determine whether these connections are both failsafe to achieve a redundant circuit. For example, I'm seeing more motor starters and drives these days that have dual channel STO where one channel is 24V+ and the other expects DC common. Can the (+) and (-) outputs be run directly to these STO inputs and be considered two-channel safety?

The block diagram of the EL2904 in the manual is a bit confusing.

What is the purpose of the high- and low-side switches (circled in blue by me)? Since they aren't in the red box they apparently feed all four channels. So under what conditions would these switches open? They'd have to be closed if at least one of the channels was activated, so it would seem that the (-) connection does not necessarily drop when a channel is deactivated. But this appears to contradict another picture elsewhere in the manual which shows identical logic on both the (+) and (-).

Any thoughts? I sent this question to Beckhoff support and didn't get a very clear answer.
